Discover the perfect floor mat idea for small entryways to keep your home organized, welcoming, and aesthetically appealing. Living in an apartment with a small entryway can be challenging, but making the most of the space is key. Since it’s the first thing visitors see, keeping it clutter-free and inviting makes a big difference. A simple coat rack, a shoe cabinet, a few decorative touches, and of course, a well-chosen rug can instantly transform the area, making it both functional and stylish.

Floor Mat Idea

I’ve searched for the “perfect floor mat” for quite some time. I tried a few places, including thrift stores, flea markets, and home stores, but nothing seemed right. They were either too big, too small, or not my style. Eventually, I gave up searching and bought one out of necessity—it wasn’t my favorite, but at least it was machine-washable. After a few years of usage, I decided it was finally time for a replacement.

One day, my Mister and I took an impromptu trip to IKEA, and I was hopeful of finding the rug I wanted or at least something similar to the one I wished for. I took my time exploring the options, and after some searching, I finally found this floor mat. After inspecting it, an idea popped into my head. I thought, why not get two pieces and connect them into one mat?! I was so excited and jumped right at it as soon as I arrived home.

I love the design and quality—the mats are strong and have a sturdy anti-slip backing. They’re almost perfect; I just wish they were a bit bigger. They aren’t machine washable, but honestly, that’s a small trade-off for their durability and overall quality, which I appreciate.

Floor Mat Idea for Small Entryways: The Chosen Materials

  • Natural jute twine
  • Large sewing needle
  • Scissors

The Simple Steps

  1. I placed the two mats side by side with the anti-slip sides facing up, then stacked them on top of each other.
  2. Next, I cut the twine into eight pieces, each about 10 cm long.
  3. Using a large sewing needle, I threaded the twine and stitched several rounds at one spot to hold the mats firmly in place. I repeated this step in eight spots to make sure the mats were securely attached.
  4. Once all the stitching was done, I flipped the mats over and pressed them down so they lay flat and even.

Tips & tricks for Clutter-Free Small Entryways

  • Keep things simple by storing only what’s necessary for the season. For example, tuck away summer shoes and sandals during winter, and vice versa. For winter jackets and coats, only keep the ones in use out and store the rest.
  • For decor, less is more. A mirror is a perfect addition—it’s not only practical but also helps make a small space feel larger.
